Who is Ivar?

Ivar is an exclusive member house for business, meetings, and pleasure. Located at Tändstickspalatset in the heart of Stockholm Business District. It is a place of practical elegance and historic glamour, a feeling that we have maintained and developed since 2015. We serve our customers and guests under the name Ivar, as a tribute to the founder and builder of this palace. But who was he?

Ivar Kreuger was a Swedish entrepreneur famous for building the global match empire, Svenska Tändsticks AB. Founded in 1917, at its height, the company controlled over two thirds of the world’s production of matches. An accomplishment that gave Ivar Kreuger the epithet “The Match King”.

Tändstickspalatset was commissioned by Ivar Kreuger to be the corporate headquarters. Designed by architect Ivar Tengbom with artistic contributions by among others Isaac Grünewald, Carl Milles, Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Carl Malmsten, the building was completed in 1929. Today it is considered to have a significant historic value.
